SUMMARY:The Judaization of the Holy City: An Interactive Convening on the Jerusalem Metropolitan Bill
DESCRIPTION:At this interactive convening\, participants will be invited to generate interfaith wisdom for collective action opposing the Jerusalem Metropolitan Bill and the colonization of the West Bank. \nTuesday\, August 12\, 2025 10 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. Eastern/8 p.m. Palestine \nWhile the genocidal crisis continues in Gaza\, the Judaization of Jerusalem and plans for the full annexation of the West Bank are quietly being engineered through legal maneuvers by the State of Israel. The Jerusalem Metropolitan Bill is one of these legal tactics. The bill proposes to legally annex settlement blocs north\, east\, and south of Jerusalem impacting the future of nearby Palestinian villages. \nThis convening will provide background on the Jerusalem Metropolitan Bill\, as well as stories from impacted villages on the ground. \nThe convening will not be recorded.

SUMMARY:Peacebuilding Summit: Palestine in Comparative Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The Peacebuilding Summit brings together Christian scholars\, practitioners\, and leaders from both the Global South and North in conversation with Palestinian Christian theologians and practitioners to reconsider the role of the Body of Christ in peacebuilding\, particularly in the context of Palestine. The summit has a three-fold emphasis: (1) listening\, (2) interdisciplinary theological reflection\, and (3) collaborative action. Of special importance is the juxtaposition of global theologies and praxes that have emerged from realities of settler-colonialism and discrimination alongside Palestinian experiences. Rooted in respectful listening and deep theological reflection\, the summit will create a space for robust dialogue allowing practitioners and scholars to compare insights\, cross-pollinate\ntactics\, and develop strategies for collaborative action to mobilize the Church to foster a just peace in Palestine-Israel. \nThe summit takes the Kairos Palestine document as its basis\, acknowledging the suffering and oppression inflicted upon the Palestinian people since 1948 and lamenting the theological legitimization thereof by large sectors of the Church. This document was authored in 2009 by a group of Palestinian Christian theologians and practitioners who sought to offer “a word of faith\, hope and love from the heart of Palestinian suffering”\, and was inspired by the South African Kairos Document of 1985. \nThe concerns of these two documents—both in challenging oppressive theological frameworks and offering constructive alternatives—are not confined to South Africa and Palestine\, but are shared among theologies done from and for contexts of oppression and injustice\, including Black theology in the U.S.\, indigenous theologies in the Americas and Oceania\, and Dalit theology in South Asia\, to name but a few. \nTherefore\, the summit aims to catalyze the work of theologies that have emerged from diverse contexts of oppression and marginalization\, with particular attention to the Palestinian context. The gathering will build upon the emphases of the Kairos documents by providing a space to both (1) critique theological and biblical constructs that have legitimized oppression and injustice (for example\, Christian Zionism)\, and (2) offer alternative theological models to empower the Church in its holistic Gospel witness.

SUMMARY:Living with Zionism: Israel\, Palestine\, and the United States (VFHL)
DESCRIPTION:March 16\, 2025\n\n\nTime\n3 pm ET/ 12 noon PT\n\n\n\nWhile the ideology of Zionism has a long history\, its manifestations today have resulted in severe injustices in Israel\, Palestine\, and the United States. In Israel\, a Nation State law undergirds an apartheid reminiscent of 1930s Germany and Jim Crow America.  In the occupied West Bank\, fanatical Zionist settlers live under civil laws\, while Palestinians live under harsh military rule. In the United States\, college administrators expel antizionist student protestors\, labeling them “anti-Semitic\,” while Christian Zionists send millions in tax-free dollars to Israeli “charities” and support local\, state\, and federal laws that threaten Americans’ First Amendment rights.  Our Israeli\, Palestinian\, and American panelists will discuss the consequences of Zionism on the lives of ordinary people in the Holy Land. \nWatch the curated film for free at your convenience. | Join the Q&A discussion with: \n\nAmira Musallam:  Christian peace activist; member\, Unarmed Civilian Protection team in Palestine\nMimi Kirk:  Editor\, Institute for the Study of Christian Zionism; Editorial Consultant\, Al-Shabaka\nOdeliya Matter: Program Associate\, Friends Committee on National Legislation; Co-Founder\, Negev Media\nSeth Morrison (Moderator):  Board Member\, JVP Action; leader\, Bay Area Jewish Voice for Peace\n\nRegister at: Tinyurl.com/VFHL-March2025 \nWatch the trailer:Tinyurl.com/VFHL-TrailerMarch2025 \nCo-Sponsors \nFriends of Sabeel North America \nJewish Voice for Peace – Boston \nSUPPORTER Organizations: Palestine Justice Network (PCUSA) ♦ Palestinian Christian Alliance for Peace ♦  Quaker Palestine Israel Network ♦ Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East ♦ Indiana Center for Middle East Peace ♦ Disciples of Christ Palestine-Israel Network ♦ Virginia Coalition for Human Rights ♦ Mennonite Palestine Israel Network ♦ Friends of Sabeel North America ♦ Episcopal Peace Fellowship Palestine Israel Network ♦ Northern New Jersey Jewish Voice for Peace ♦ United Church of Christ Palestine Israel Network ♦ US Lutheran Palestine Israel Caucus ♦ Churches for Middle East Peace ♦  Pax Christi USA ♦
